Building Cultural Competence

Building Cultural Competence is a 3-month leadership development program that equips leaders with the skills to build bridges across the cultural, political, and social divides in our region and our country.

What is Building Cultural Competence?

Building Cultural Competence is a 3-month leadership development program that equips leaders with the skills to build bridges across the cultural, political, and social divides in our region and our country. Through the program, participants expand their perspectives, deepen understanding of themselves and others, and grow into a more effective leader capable of embracing difference as a competitive advantage and leading a cultural shift within your organization.

Program Objectives

  • Gauge one’s cultural competence and note changes over the program

  • Enhance understanding of one’s own worldview and cultural identity, including implicit/unconscious bias

  • Increase knowledge of differences as viewed through the lenses of race, ethnicity, and gender

  • Equip participants with tools for communication and behaviors that bridge differences

  • Create an ongoing, cross-cultural dialogue that examines how we increase inclusion in our region

  • Foster a network of individuals, companies and groups who serve as champions of change in our communities

Target Participants:

Business, non-profit, and community leaders from all sectors

Curriculum

 

  • Skill building for cultural competence from awareness to knowledge to
    skills
  • The impact of our emotions (EQ) on how we relate to and deal with
    differences
  • The impact of moral foundations on decision making
  • The neuroscience of bias and strategies to mitigate bias
  • SMART goals with a focus on action planning designed to create system change and impact

Program Timeframe:

Sample Timeframe

April  – June 

All sessions run 8:30 AM-12:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted April 11, 2023 – Opening Reception & Kickoff (4 – 6:30 p.m.)

  • April 25 – Session 1
  • May 9 – Session 2
  • May 23 – Session 3
  • June 8 – Session 4
  • June 27 – Graduation (4 – 6 p.m.)

$50 (non-refundable). Applicants will be asked to pay via credit card at the end of the online application process.

Her consulting practice, Consultant On The Go LLC, focuses on diagnosing and improving the fundamental human interactions upon which all successful businesses are built. Priya has more than 18 years of experience working with a variety of organizations on employee development, communication, change management, emotional intelligence, global diversity, and cultural competence. Priya has extensive experience in conducting skills assessments, analyzing results, and facilitating debrief sessions. Priya’s corporate experience includes working for companies like Ashland Inc., Convergys, Great American Insurance, and Fifth Third Bank. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in business from the College of Mount St. Joseph and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development from Xavier University. She is certified in various assessment tools and methodologies, and is a coach practitioner.
