The ROI of Leadership Center Programs

What’s the ROI of leadership development?

Is it networking? Promotions? Retention?

Or is it something deeper — connection, clarity, and confidence that carries into every room you walk into?

We design our programs to get you out into the community. To see what’s working well in our region — and what isn’t. To sit in rooms with people you wouldn’t normally work alongside. To have real conversations about real issues.

From the participant perspective, here are the three areas of impact:

1. Connection to the Community

Why it matters:
When you better understand the region you live and work in, you make better decisions.

Participants leave with:

  • A broader perspective on local challenges and opportunities
  • A stronger understanding of how your organization fits into the bigger picture
  • A deeper sense of responsibility and pride in where you live

Research continues to show that feeling connected to your community increases overall job satisfaction — and we see that play out in real time.

2. Connection to Each Other

Why it matters:
Unfortunately, loneliness is at an all-time high. Division and polarity show up everywhere — from family dinner tables to boardrooms. One estimate is that when employees are lonely, the impact on the organization is $13,300 per lonely employee per year based on absenteeism, healthcare costs and turnover. This is according to analysis by Sunny Workplace.

Our programs create space to build meaningful relationships across sectors, industries, backgrounds, and ideologies.

That connection leads to:

  • Stronger collaboration
  • Faster problem-solving
  • A trusted network you can count on long after the program ends

It’s hard to put a dollar amount on that kind of access — but it absolutely impacts how you show up as a leader.

3. Connection to Growth

Leadership development gives you time and space to reflect — something most of us don’t build into our busy schedules.

Participants gain:

  • Greater clarity around their leadership style
  • Confidence in navigating complex conversations
  • Tools to take action when community issues arise

You begin to see how your work contributes to making the region stronger — and that sense of purpose changes how you show up every day.

It is important to note that we don’t just assume this impact — we measure it.

In 2025, our average Net Promoter Score (NPS) across all Leadership Center programs and events was 68. (For context, anything above 50 is considered excellent.)

We evaluate effectiveness from the participant perspective, because their experience is the true measure of value.

For HR & Talent Acquisition Leaders

If you’re responsible for developing and retaining talent, ROI likely looks like:

  • Stronger performance
  • Higher retention
  • A healthier leadership pipeline

The good news? Leadership development directly supports all three.

Some research shows ROI ranging from $3 up to $11 for each dollar invested, depending on how results are measured (revenue growth, retention savings, promotions, etc.) Source: https://shorecp.university/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Talent-Development-ROI-One-Pager-vF25.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com

According to the Center for Creative Leadership, employee retention is significantly higher at companies that prioritize leadership development.

When employees feel invested in, challenged, and connected beyond their immediate role, they’re more likely to stay — and to lead more effectively while they’re there.

Leadership programs also surface high-potential talent and give them the cross-sector exposure and relationship capital that accelerates readiness for expanded responsibility.

One Key Factor

In my experience, the strongest ROI happens when participants choose growth — when they walk into the room curious and ready to engage. Open to what might unfold during the program and long after it ends.

At the same time, I’ve watched those who were initially reluctant—due to workload, timing, or life changes—walk away profoundly moved and grateful. It’s a testament to the fact that growth meets people exactly where they are.

Conclusion

All in all, leadership development isn’t just an expense. It’s a multiplier.

For individuals.
For organizations.
For our region.

If growth is on your goals this year — for yourself or for your team — we’d love to help you find the right program to stretch leadership skills and expand impact across your organization: Leadership Center Interest Form
