Jobs Update

As 2022 came to a close, we received yet another positive jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The United States added 223,000 jobs in December, slightly higher than expected, and the unemployment rate fell to a seasonally adjusted 3.5 percent, a record 50 year low. Locally, the latest jobs report in November showed that we added about 4,000 jobs in the Cincinnati region, representing four straight months of local job growth, and the largest monthly gain since January 2022. The unemployment rate in our region fell to an astonishingly low 3 percent. The local rate is not seasonally adjusted and compares to 3.3 percent unadjusted nationally, indicating our labor market is once again even tighter than the national labor market. Later this week we’ll get the latest Consumer Price Index report from the BLS. It is expected to show that inflation continues to moderate as we kick off 2023.
