Do you remember your first internship?

The answer usually is: "How could I forget?!” Internships are windows into the future for students, helping them understand the ways and rhythms of work, the possibilities in a career, and the way their education connects to a job.

And an internship in the Cincinnati region is often a key to helping a young person make a connection to all that this community has to offer, helping us grow our population and talent base. That's because the region is organized and thoughtful in our approach to helping interns have a great experience while they are here.

Kabrella Clark was an intern at the Cincinnati Chamber six years ago. She worked with our marketing team, did tremendous work, and importantly, made connections with the team and leaders here. Now, Kabrella is our Talent Connections Manager. She leads CINC, a free program that helps summer interns get connected to Cincinnati while they are here.

This summer, interns and co-ops from all over the region will gather to see an FC Cincinnati match, learn from an all-star crew of Cincinnati YPs, and connect with one another as they crack that window into their futures. Your interns can learn more about the full CINC lineup and register for the kickoff event at Memorial Hall

Help us grow Cincinnati by welcoming and supporting the thousands of summer interns who are working in our businesses this year, and pass the word about CINC along to all of your interns and encourage them to be a part of this valuable program.

And thanks to all of you for coming out to Taste of Cincinnati this weekend. Our team loves this event, and they work night and day for weeks to make it happen. We’re proud to support the region’s tremendous culinary community, and we are already looking forward to next year.

Housing Update | Center for Research & Data

As we transition into summer and the construction season ramps up, the Center for Research & Data decided to take a look at housing construction permits over the last few years for the Cincinnati region. The housing permit data comes from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and shows the numbers of permitted units by county and municipality for our metropolitan area.

Data between 2017 and 2021 are final counts, while the 2022 data in the charts below is preliminary. As a result, the totals for 2022 might increase. What we see is that the region saw an uptick in housing units permitted during the pandemic, and Hamilton County, as the most populous and urbanized county in the region, saw the greatest number of housing units permitted over the six-year period.

Within Hamilton County, the majority of units permitted during the period were within the City of Cincinnati, illustrating the revitalization of the city and our urban core. While it is not shown in the charts below, we do have preliminary data for the first quarter of 2023. That data show that the region is on track to surpass our 2022 total by about a thousand units, which would put us about 500 units higher than the six-year average.

Housing Permits - Urban/Suburban Northern Kentucky Counties
